The Pat Metheny Orchestration Tour

Pat Metheny will be touring with his Orchestration Project from April 6 to May 22, 2010.

The tour is solo, but then again not really solo: he’s touring with an Orchestrionic band: acoustic instruments that are mechanically controlled by solenoids (3-dimensional coils) and pneumatics.

Tickets are available here:

Orchestrionics is something else, here’s a video:

Pat Metheny is a musical genius in the company of Mozart, Chopin, Segovia, Charlie Christian, Les Paul, and Steve Vai. I have seen him in concert 3 times and was absolutely mesmerized! He continues to stretch the boundaries of his music but still manages to keep his signature sound. I hope this tour comes to Denver....preferably Red Rocks!

Mozart, Chopin (I would not think so) Segovia (maybe), Charlie C & Les Paul (yes...)

Vai, ah, personally I think he is a brilliant 'rock guitar' soloist. As for composition, I have not found anything in Vai's own music since certain tracks off Passion and Warfare. He seems more concerned with his leather pants and the fans that blow his hair back on stage. Meth is on a different path to Vai (surely hope so!)

this really STINKS! so about 30 living breathing broke and hungry musicians who work very hard honing their skills go without a gig so pat can do some musical masturbation. i hope he gets a packed solenoid audience that doesnt pay him.

If you can get Pat to bend over you might be able to prise this one out, give it a wipe down and use it yourself...

I thought "hmm what a fancy 'Band in a Box' he's got there"... then he shows the guitar -triggers- the instruments...

'sweet' doesn't even begin to describe it... drool...

When viewed against his entire career, this tour is just another chapter of Pat's musical exploration. He has the right to do as he wishes. Calling it "masturbation" is small-minded. How many musicians have gotten gigs through Pat? How many more have been inspired to careers of their own through his music?
