Interview With Pat Metheny

I just read an interesting interview with Pat Metheny in the Japan Times Online. He talks about the limitations of the guitar and that he only sees the guitar as a means to an end.

"I don't really care about the guitar", he says.

I have the same attitude towards my instrument, I'm not really a guitar freak. Are you?

Here's a link to the interview:

Don't care about the guitar?!?! That is blasphemous! JK. I like this quote a lot, especially coming from Pat Metheny, who is one of the best guitarists ever in my opinion. A lot of people become to obsessed with guitar tricks and techniques, rather than focusing on the main purpose of the music, which could be a number of emotional options. The guitar should be used as a means of expression, not self-indulgence. Great post!
