Somewhere Over The Rainbow [Video]

Play Jazz Guitar Course

In this jazz guitar video, Tommy Emmanuel plays a beautiful version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow on his worn acoustic guitar. The way he uses harmonics is amazing.

The guitar tabs can be found here: http://www.jazzguitar.be/jazz/over-the-rainbow.php

This is amazing. V. Beautiful. Eric Roche played a great version of Chet Atkins arrangement of this song from the Album 'Chet Atkins Goes to The Movies' (1975). I have been learning it from a great colomn in a mag by Eric Roche.

Some bunghole guitar instructor used to give me crap about resting my right pinky on the sound board like this guy does--saying it's bad form and profesionals don't do that.

I told him to **** himself and dropped the class..

Yes - that IS good. I laughed out loud with sheer pleasure at points during that. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!

Tommy is indeed a master & this piece is just one of many of his wonderful work. I have had the priviledge to watch Tommy live, just him & his guitar on stage, & my head still spins at his technique and ability. He even plays brushes on the soundboard (hence the lack of finish!) 'Up from Down under' is an amazing acoustic album if anybody wants to hear more of him or youtube of course! Thanks Dirk for posting this.

How to make your guitar sound like a harp... listening to this fantastic performance is like entering heaven...

As a proud Aussie I always love Tommy's playing and his flambouyant riffs which are his trademark. His brother Phil can make his axe sing too and well worth a listen. Chet Atkins must look down from his musicians paradise in the sky and smile as his influence radiates from Tommy's work. Certified Guitar Player ? ...... definately.

I've been playing guitar for almost 30 years. Some guitars players inspire me. This guy is so good, I almost want to quit... Almost.

I saw Tommy live a few years back in Coventry. Not only a great guitarist but a modest and entertaining performer in his live shows.

His scope as a guitarist is unparalleled and, as others have noted, his skill with harmonics is jaw dropping.

If you want to try something a little less challenging his own composition Angelina is almost approachable for mortals and a nice tune to learn.

I started in 1955. I still don't know how to get this good.

Tommy is a six-string genius and that's a fact.

I think this is on YouTube too, or at least there's a similar version.
Thanks for the reminder Dirk
