Gilbert Isbin : Introduction

Hi, I am Gilbert Isbin, Belgian acoustic fingerstyle jazz guitarist.

I released thus far 16 albums as a solo artist or in collaboration with a.o. Joe Fonda, Cameron Brown, Jeff Gauthier, Scott Walton, Ernst Reijseger, Hugh Hopper, Jatinder Thakur, ...

My initial inspirations were Joe Pass, Ralph Towner, Bill Connors (in his ECM period), John McLaughlin, Lenny Breau, Bill Evans, Paul Bley, Egberto Gismonti but also classical composers like Leo Brouwer, Charles Ives, or folkartists like Nick Drake, Bert Jansch, etc. to name a few.

Into the future I want introduce you to the different aspects of fingerstyle jazz playing, fingerstyle improvising tools, hot fingerstyle licks, interesting chords, doing some interviews, reviewing CDs, ... If you are a fingerstyle jazzplayer and want to be reviewed, contact me.

Look out for a forthcoming interview of mine with S.D. Anderson, a close friend of Lenny Breau and amazing fingerstyle jazz guitarplayer who released the CD 'Remembering the Rain', a solo guitar tribute to Bill Evans. Stephen also wrote 'Visions', a book on Lenny Breau's style. More later.
